Weight Watchers Core Plan

small_icon_weightwatchers.gif

I heard about the new WW plan, and it rather appealed to me, so I rejoined Weightwatchers, and chose the Core Plan. It's brand new. I was going to start with South Beach again, but I got curious about this plan, so I'm going to see how I feel doing this. Monday is the day I've chosen to start. It's also the day I go back to work.

I'm currently firmly entrenched in my "not giving a shit" mood, and trying desparately to shed it!

I am on the fence about Core. I've been on the old WW plan since April, and it's working pretty well. But the freedom from journaling food and counting points is pretty tempting. I think I will probably succumb in the near future and make the switch.

I'm writing from England. I attend WeightWatchers here in the UK, and so far have lost 22 lbs. But at the moment I am struggling to lose more weight. I get very hungry on the 20 points a day I am allowed, and need fresh motivation. So I was very interested to learn about the new core diet programme which has just been launched, but unfortunately there does not see a likelihood of us getting it here until the new year, perhaps not even then. Without it being too unethical, is anyone prepared to let me have a broad outline of what the new diet entails? For instance, I hear that one can eat as much as one likes of wholegrain rice and pasta. Is this a fact? And what about oats and wholegrain bread? Are oils allowed, and in what quantity? And proteins?

Looking forward to replies.

Whoa! I don't think WeightWatchers would ever condone the use of the words "as much as one likes".

In the U.S., the plan was introduced last Monday. I missed the meeting, but went yesterday and found out all about it.

Trying to stay within ethical boundaries, I have to answer a couple of these questions. First, the plan makes an attempt to get the individual within a "comfort zone". You should only eat to stay within the zone, never too full and never too hungry. Second, when they say whole grains, that's exactly what they mean, grains have made the list of core foods, but any processed foods with added sugars seem to be excluded. Also, certain items on the core list are only to be used in moderation (say, once per day). See the article by MSNBC at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5774013/.

Proteins (lean), veggies, and fruits are definitely a "go", but again, you should wait for the plan to get the specifics and to ensure that you are not abusing the idea of eating until you are comfortable.

And, yes, oils have been added and are actually required now. The great thing mentioned in the article is that you can switch between the plans as often as every week if you like. This gives those of us who have hit a plateau a chance to break through the barrier and change things up a bit.

Great going Weight Watchers! By the way, today was my first day on "The Core Plan" and, so far, I think that I'm really going to like it.

Good luck!
